Tierra Vista successfully implements street name changes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --

In order to alleviate safety concerns and enhance convenience for residents, base leadership and Tierra Vista Communities worked together this spring to change the names of thirteen streets in the community. The new street names, which were provided to Tierra Vista personnel by the PAFB Base Planning team, were implemented due to similarities among several original street names causing confusion for emergency personnel, community navigation and home deliveries.

“We first identified the problem with base leadership in late 2014,” said Jerry Schmitz, senior vice president and regional general manager for Tierra Vista Communities. “We worked with the HMO, (21st) CE, PAFB Fire Department and PAFB Base Planning team to develop a first round plan for street name changes and clarification in early 2015.”

Tierra Vista personnel and base leadership agreed to implement the changes in spring 2016, before PCS season, in an effort to minimize resident impact. In order to ensure all records would be changed in a timely manner, Tierra Vista worked with the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department and the local Post Office in the fall of 2015 to develop and finalize implementation plans.

“We notified residents of the impending change in mid-March of this year,” Schmitz said. “Second notices with new address and mail delivery change information were mailed and hand-delivered in mid-April.”

All changes are now complete, and new addresses are live in the United States Postal Service system. New house numbers and street signs have been installed where applicable, and the Property Management staff remains vigilant in ensuring all residents have any additional information they need.
