CFC continues

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The annual Combined Federal Campaign charity drive, interrupted by the 16-day federal government shutdown, has resumed.

The annual campaign is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign.

Key workers have been assigned to each squadron and will make all the materials available to those who would like to donate, said Maj. Nathan Maertens, CFC assistant installation project officer.

In addition to local charities, the CFC book contains more than 3,000 charitable agencies and educational institutions nationwide. A few examples include the American Red Cross, the Crawford House, National Public Radio and more.

This year's CFC theme is "It's not about the goal, it's about the need."

"There are always people in greater need than ourselves," said Col. John Shaw, 21st Space Wing commander. "The annual CFC campaign is an opportunity for us all to show how much we care."

The 21st Space Wing campaign goal is $300,000 and the participation goal is 25 percent to help those in need. Last year, the wing raised more than $290,000, but participation was only about 16 percent compared to the regional average of 23 percent.

"The campaign is a convenient and good opportunity to give back," Maertens said. "We hope everyone will consider donating."

According to the campaign's website, almost 200 CFC campaigns throughout the country and overseas raise millions of dollars each year.
