CLEAR AIR FORCE STATION, Alaska -- When most people think of Services, many think of serving food in the dining facility or passing out towels in the gym, but at Clear Air Force Station, Services takes on a different meaning.

The team is comprised of four military, both regular Air Force and Alaska Air National Guard, one Department of Defense civilian and four non-appropriated fund employees. Through their total force efforts they provide myriad amenities whose main focus is quality of life at an Air Force Station 75 miles from the nearest movie theater or fast food restaurant.

The outdoor recreation section boasts a collection of ATVs, snowmobiles, campers and trailers, all available for rent to authorized personnel, as well arranging day hikes, fishing trips and overnight ATV treks into the wilderness. This year they are offering a Kenai fishing expedition, two fishing excursions out of Seward, an outing to the Arctic Circle, several rafting trips and local area day hikes. Thanks to several recent grants, ODR is also able to rent a plethora of camping and fishing gear, as well as several types of kayaks and rafts so Airmen can create their own outdoor adventure.

On-base activities include the Polar Bar lounge, a state-of-the-art six lane bowling center, bingo and a monthly membership-night dinner. The gym features 23 pieces of cardio equipment in addition to a 16-station weight circuit, free weights, dumb bells, kettle bells and an aerobics room. In addition to ensuring the gym equipment is in safe working condition, Services offers two movie channels, check cashing services, ballroom reservations and setup, vending sales, library services and an auto hobby shop and arts and crafts workshop with drill press, sanders, planers and other woodworking equipment available for checkout.

Services also provides needed support for base events and Armed Forces entertainment venues, including holiday parties, promotion, retirement and change of command ceremonies, commander's call, arts and crafts classes, Tops In Blue performances, billiards exhibitions and comedy acts.

Whether it's snowshoes and cross-country skis, ice augers and fishing poles, or backpacks and gold pans, Services has what Airmen need to get out and enjoy the bounty of Alaska's interior.
