PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The sweat is pouring, your heart is pumping and it's hard to catch your breath.  If this is what your looking for, then check out the three new fitness classes offered by the Fitness Center.

The Fitness Center already offers ten different classes, but is introducing three new ones to offer a variety of options to Airmen who use the gym.

"We try to see what's comparable in the industry and give the same options," Master Sgt. Jennifer Moss, 21st Force Support Squadron fitness and sports section chief, said. " We're trying to revamp the fitness program and give commanders more options for their Airmen."

Knowledge about the classes spreads by word of mouth, so it's a little slow, she said. Many Airmen don't even know how much is offered and don't take advantage of the great programs.

"We have ten certified fitness trainers, in addition to the contractors who are certified," Moss added. "The certifications vary from kick-boxing to step and other group exercises. We're professionals."

The three new classes, each with their own certified trainer, include: total-body-resistance-exercises class, the compound class and a boxing /conditioning cardio class. Moss said these new classes are scheduled to begin July 1.
Each class is unique and the benefits vary.

TRX builds a solid core and improves muscular endurance using gravity and body weight to perform the different exercises. The class is offered from 6-6:55 a.m. on Monday mornings.

The Compound starts with a warm-up and then burns calories while building muscle by incorporating cardio moves between every interval and finishes with toning the abdominals. This is a total body workout taking place from 12:05 - 1 p.m. every Monday.

Boxing and conditioning cardio class provides a high level of conditioning, focused on the upper and lower body, core, balance and strength. Participants will learn boxing techniques and fundamentals every Thursday from 6-7 p.m.

Of the 13 classes available, only a select few have fees required to participate, due to contractor instructors and equipment provided.

"We're paid to be in shape!" Moss said. "We want people to take advantage of the programs we offer. If people buy into it, we can incorporate it into the classes next year [so it won't cost money to participate]."
