PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- During July, the 21st Security Forces Squadron, along with facility parking wardens issued 120 traffic citations. Speed violations comprised of the majority of the citations and we noted an over 40% increase in speeding citations from June to July. Drivers were suspended for various offenses including excessive speed, failing to ensure passengers were properly restrained, and failing to have the proper documents in order to operate a vehicle on a DoD installation.

Traffic Information - The 21st SFS is responsible for traffic enforcement on the installation. With regard to traffic supervision, we want to ensure the safe and efficient movement of personnel and vehicles. As you likely know, most traffic accidents are preventable, and speed is often a major contributing factor. In 2013, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was a significant factor in 29 percent of all fatal traffic accidents. We have noticed an increase in the number of speed violations across the installation. Speed limits are determined by a variety of factors, including roadside development and characteristics, accident experience, and parking and pedestrian activities. Please consider the safety of the people and the property and Peterson Air Force Base by slowing down.

Calls for Service - Security Forces responded to about 151 calls for service during July, including:
- 54 human error alarm activations
- 19 medical responses
- 6 motor vehicle accidents

Off Base Incidents - Security Forces receive notification of some off base arrests or incidents involving military members or government property. These included a report of driving under the influence of alcohol.
