Peterson to migrate to new voicemail platform

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Over the next 12 months, the 21st Communications Squadron will migrate all users with voicemail accounts, call trees and audio bulletin boards to a new platform.

The robust voicemail capability supports the Department of Defense's phased approach to introducing unified capabilities. It will increase mission effectiveness across the DoD using the integration of voice, video and/or data services.

"We have a voicemail system that is on its last leg," said 1st Lt. Nathan Flack, 21st Communications Squadron flight commander. "It has been operating the voicemail for the entire base since 2000. We now have two new platforms. ...The new platforms will be much more secure and reliable."

Phase I will migrate roughly 9,000 users to the new platform from Oct. 2015 to April 2016, said Flack.

To enable Phase I, Peterson users will receive an e-mail from the voicemail migration team (21CS.SCOIB.PAFBVoiceMailMigr@us.af.mil) requesting their first/last name, e-mail address, phone number, organization and building and room number.

Once the account is created, users will receive a second e-mail from the same address with specific instructions to establish a new personal identification number and greeting.

"After this phase, the (old server) will be removed from the network," Flack said.
In the fall of 2016, Phase II will include integrating the system into the base network so users can receive e-mail notifications upon receipt of voicemail messages.

For organizations with call trees or audio bulletin boards, 21st CS will contact owning units to validate the requirements and to reprogram the message(s) into the new system.
