PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- It's Combined Federal Campaign time again and this year the 21st Space Wing at Peterson Air Force Base hosted the kick off in a unique and fun way.

Team Pete supported the CFC by participating in a dodgeball tournament in conjunction with a charity fair Nov. 6 at the Peterson AFB Fitness Center.

The idea of having a dodgeball tournament with the CFC kickoff came from Buckley Air Force Base, Colo. They recently had a dodgeball tournament with their CFC event, which was a huge success, and everyone had a very good time, said Maj. Dawn Baker, the 21st Logistics Readiness Squadron director of operations.

Anyone who works on base, including the tenant units, could create a team and compete in the dodgeball tournament. They could also go out and visit all the charity booths located throughout the fitness center.

Nine teams signed up and competed in the tournament, which was held in the main gym at the fitness center. The competition followed the National Amateur Dodgeball Association rules.

At the end of the tournament, trophies were given out to the winners and those with the best uniforms.

"(We wanted) the participants of the tournament to dress up in wacky uniforms like the ones in the Dodgeball movie," said Baker.

While the organizers wanted participants to have a good time playing dodgeball, the intent was to get people to come out and visit the CFC booths. Each booth presented different organizations and charities to help Airmen decide who to donate to through the CFC.

"The goal of the CFC is to engage federal employees into giving to charities of their choice," said Barbara Barfield, the CFC director of the Rocky Mountain Region.
The CFC has been around for almost 55 years, and has over 2,400 different causes, programs and services that are funded through the CFC, more than likely there's one that fits everybody, Barfield said.

By attending the charity fair, Airmen had a chance to see different organizations that may interest them and decide which is best to donate to, should they choose to. This is another opportunity for Airmen to give back to their community.
