Peterson Spurs take title

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – The Peterson AFB Spurs, a fourth-grade youth basketball team at the RP Lee Youth Center, won the Southern Colorado Basketball League tournament May 15, 2011, in Colorado Springs. The Spurs finished first in their division at 7-1 in regular season play, and went into the tournament as the number one seed. During the tourney, the Spurs won their three games 36-6, 31-27 and finally 39-17 over the number two seed to win the 2011 SoCo Championship for the fourth grade division. “The boys played with everything they had,” said Staff Sgt. Michael Truitt, the volunteer coach from the 21st Operations Support Squadron. Sergeant Truitt and Greg Gouty, Air Force Space Command, coach the team. “They surpassed all my expectations going into this season. I am proud and honored to be their coach,” Sergeant Truitt said.
