U.S. Navy Intelligence Specialist Master Chief Petty Officer Stephen M. Harano, Naval Information Force Reserve Region Southwest, is a fifth generation American of Japanese ancestry. His family migrated from Japan in 1898 and established their home in Berkeley, CA. After the attacks on Pearl Harbor, his family was interned across the west coast, and all of their property and assets were seized. Two of Harano’s family members volunteered for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a segregated Japanese-American unit, and were killed in action during World War II. Harano currently serves as the regional senior enlisted leader for an Echelon 3 Type command detachment responsible for the man, train and equip mission of 1,962 Sailors across 25 information warfare units, including 637 embedded sailors in California, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam. U.S. Space Force Capt. Christopher Dong, 9th Combat Training Squadron (CTS), Space Delta 9-Orbital Warfare, Force Generation Division chief is a Guardian of Chinese descent. Dong oversees all training for Del 9 and executes mission assurance activities through sustainment and resource allocation. The 9th CTS is the orbital warfare training unit providing dynamic force generation and mission support for combat operations in Del 9. The unit executes 30 space combat training courses with partners across three field commands, five deltas, 12 squadrons, two program offices, and total force integration.
